Pop-Link

I have been paying attention to those moments of memory when what is held or seen triggers review of a currently unrelated matter or habit. This work celebrates one of those moments. A rove of the beach & popped corn met in a room of my brain. The party they had resulted in this sculpture.

Shipwrecked

Another in a series of whimsical stages for life wrought from recalled dreams. What would it look like to piece a shipwreck back together incorrectly? The early morning moment when I paste people & places onto a train of thought, but ultimately feel the weight of complete dysfunction. Gold barnacles mark this memory of a shipwrecked dream.

Money Tree

My money grows on a mash-up between Moses' burning bush & an ad slamming of  expensive banking. At times I find that nothing turns my stomach or my world more than money. A revelation that makes me push priorities around with newly sore hands. This work is visualizing the baggage of this struggle, so that I can move on. Leave it behind. No fat caterpillars selling "free money" here...just raw limbs & collecting metal.

Seeds

Piece 3 in a series of bark stages for frozen life, and this one breaks into a growth concept. The seahorse is floating in a garden of incubating life. Though the adult remains still, a churning source of life is present in egglets of tomorrow's frozen story. This bark stage is lengthening the bookends of the life cycle in play.

Shining Light

The mysteries of death. Chosen indifference melts in the presence of truth & undiscoverable truths are what visuals can explore with a particular abandonment to History's voice. This skull was my Grandpa Ashman's & this inherited item carried with it a certain remnant of lost stories that I could not put my finger on. 'Shining Light' is the result of me trying to put a finger on visions of new life through the eyes of losing the ultimate fight we are each matched against. These eyes must be seeing, without the pain of this world, into the spaces of undefeated grace. A spirit animal of promised salvation & a memoir to a loved Native American elder gone before us.

Nesting

A flicker of time reminds us to rest & a change in the wind breaks the bough. Hopes are set on a crocked throw landing these dice in the fake comfort of copper strands. I am exploring the floppiness of future & the divots of incubated time that keep us hoping. Dice for eggs, metal for softness & the skin of a broken bough.

Home Improvement

Whimsical stages for miniature worlds is the vision of this piece & this first final will lead to others. I have dreams of who might live or explore this percolating ooze. My backdrop gives free range to apply new civilizations, life, uses & fantasies. I am going back to the miniature house of my childhood & the thoughtful staging that inspired waking & sleeping dreams of tiny lives lived in my creation. For the improvement of any mind's home...more stages I say!

Captive

Piece 2 in a series of bark stages for frozen life. The relationship between trees & animals is whimsically set in a barring of sorts. A metal cage, dagger, holding tank. Where hints at movement are grounded onto the skin of trees. Beautiful captivity. Reminders of life sucked dry & stapled secure.

Clot

When our bodies betray us. When they nash teeth where you thought only softness should be. This sculpture is my comment on my own anatomy. The complexity of which I am continually amazed & horrified by. God's creation marred by hopes set in despairing directions.

Anatomy. Fingerprinted. Loudmouthed. Beauty.

Crown Of Thorns I

Sore hands paid off! Here is a Studio Window peak at a new series I am wrestling with. Thoughts about death & redemption are churning these sculptures into being.

Crab Walk

A new studio deserves as many windows as possible & this window is for you to see pieces & vapors of my current work. Welcome! May my ideas inspire yours as I challenge the proverbial relationship between an artist & their work space. Windows are better than Walls.

Redeemed claws walk on air, because sand is for scubbies. Stacked & pierced into floating exos.
